Part of the Charlotte Motor Speedway complex located just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, the Z-Max Dragway is the premiere NHRA drag racing facility in the United States. The project’s scope included a new, state-of-the-art, four-lane drag racing stadium capable of holding 25,000 spectators in two grandstands, with accompanying concession areas. A 32,000 SF control tower located near the starting line includes luxury VIP suites, race control and operations areas, and a media/press box. Optima provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering design for the complex. Due to schedule demands, the project was constructed in just six months and opened in August 2008. (All images this page courtesy of ai Design Group)
