NovantHealth – Presbyterian Women’s Center
A new women’s center healthcare facility was added on top of an existing parking deck.
- Height of addition required high-rise building code requirements
- Two-phase project (addition above existing parking deck and renovation of existing space)
- Received the Pinnacle Award for Best Building Project (AGC)
This project involved creating a new 62,000 SF women’s center healthcare facility on top of an existing, ten level parking deck. The new floor on top of the parking deck was connected to the seventh floor of the adjacent main hospital by a new 16,000 SF addition, and this addition was constructed above the three-story portion of the hospital below. The height of the addition required that the project was designed to meet high-rise building code requirements. Spaces in the addition include 16 labor and delivery rooms, 14 ante-partum rooms, 39 post partum rooms, three isolation rooms, three C-section rooms, and two nurseries along with support areas and administrative offices. A 5,000 SF lobby on the ground floor included new elevators to serve the women’s center on the 7th floor. After this work was completed, the project’s second phase focused on the renovation of the existing hospital. Roughly 40,000 SF of the seventh floor was renovated, creating a new NICU area with 36 bassinets, two isolation rooms, new patient rooms and other required support areas. The same areas were also renovated on the sixth floor, creating new patient rooms where the nursery was previously located and renovating the existing patient rooms. The project received the Pinnacle Award for Best Building Project, from the Association of General Contractors.
